Couples Therapy and Premarital Counseling:

For couples who want to work through present emotional blocks, relational issues, and other problems within the marriage or dating relationship. 

Often in couples therapy, the focus is on trying to resolve problems, which can be limited in effectiveness.  One of the approaches I use is  Emotionally Focused Therapy. This type of approach looks beyond problem solving that helps the client identify their needs and learn healthier ways to communicate those needs.  From that safe emotional place, solving problems flows naturally. This provides a longer lasting effect.


Some of the methods I draw upon to assist the couple in realizing their  goals may include:

• Talking and exploring thoughts and feelings.
• Gaining insight on how past events may be influencing current stresses
• Use of Mindfulness techniques
• Understanding and working with emotions, needs and values
• Variations of Emotional Regulation tools  to work through conflict
• Defining  steps which lead to change that one may practice from week to week
• Personality and compatibility assessment ( used in premarital counseling)
